About Our EPDM Rubber Roofing Service

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber roofing membrane that has been the workhorse of commercial flat roofing for over 50 years. Its exceptional flexibility — it can stretch up to 300% before failure — makes it ideal for buildings that experience significant movement or complex geometry. EPDM performs well across the DFW climate's wide temperature range and resists UV, ozone, and acid rain effectively. Available in 45-mil and 60-mil thicknesses and in black or white (fleece-backed for fully-adhered applications), EPDM is installed fully-adhered, mechanically-fastened, or ballasted. DFW Commercial Roofing installs Carlisle SynTec and Firestone EPDM systems with full manufacturer warranty support.

Our EPDM Roofing Process

01

Site Assessment

We evaluate the existing roof substrate, insulation condition, drain locations, and penetrations to design the EPDM system.

02

Insulation & Cover Board

Polyiso or EPS insulation is installed to meet energy code R-value requirements, topped with a cover board for EPDM adhesion.

03

Membrane Installation

EPDM sheets are positioned and installed fully-adhered (bonding adhesive applied to substrate and membrane), mechanically-fastened, or ballasted.

04

Seam Splicing & Flashings

All seams are spliced using EPDM splice adhesive or tape. All penetrations, drains, and terminations are flashed with EPDM accessories.

05

Quality Control & Warranty

We inspect all seams with seam probes, conduct a final walkthrough, and register your manufacturer warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does EPDM last?

EPDM roofs typically last 25 to 35 years when properly installed and maintained. The membrane's inherent flexibility and UV resistance are key to its longevity.

What is the difference between black and white EPDM?

Black EPDM is the traditional product and the most widely available. White EPDM (or fleece-backed white EPDM) offers better solar reflectivity, reducing cooling loads in the DFW summer heat. White is typically specified for energy-conscious or LEED projects.

Can EPDM be repaired if damaged?

Yes. EPDM repairs are straightforward — damaged areas are cleaned, primed, and patched with compatible EPDM tape or membrane sections bonded with lap adhesive. This is one of the system's practical advantages.
